Celebrate Snelling! was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on the evening of Thursday, August 20th 2015 to applaud the reopening of the Snelling Avenue bridge over I-94. Representatives from the City of Saint Paul and Minnesota Department of Transportation expressed gratitude to the residents and business owners who’ve pulled through a tough summer of construction, with more construction work further north on Snelling yet to be done this fall. The District Councils Collaborative led walking tours to experience new pedestrian improvements around the bridge, Metro Transit’s new mascot brought cheerful attention to the new Bus Rapid Transit line set to open next year, and the Friendly Streets Initiative partnered with the Union Park District Council and Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation to collect neighbors’ input on possible improvements to the common green space around the new bridge. Midway Murals was present spreading the word about their project and festival on August 29th, and district councils provided a variety of neighborhood programming info. Delicious free food from local businesses along the avenue and giant bubbles concocted by Anne White brought lots of smiles and giggles. Thanks to everyone who collaborated on this great event!
