The mission of the Friendly Streets Initiative is to create more vibrant, livable neighborhoods and healthier communities along the Green Line LRT by transforming streets into places that are more friendly – i.e. safe and inviting for residents and all users – and connected, especially to the Green Line. The Friendly Streets Initiative hosts fun and engaging events that invite residents to re-imagine the nature and purpose of streets and learn about the possibilities for street transformation. Friendly Streets uses a variety of visual, tactile, and experiential tools to facilitate the creation of visions and plans for streets and neighborhoods.

Over the past four years, the Friendly Streets Initiative has worked on several projects, including Charles Avenue, Fairview Avenue, Hague Avenue, Pelham Boulevard, Raymond Avenue, Selby at Snelling, and Victoria Street. In 2015, the Friendly Streets Initiative team will engage communities to envision ways to improve walk and bike connections to several LRT Green Line stations. The centerpiece of our work in 2015 are the automobile and bike/pedestrian bridges over I-94.
